Treehouse

1. I’d like to start simple. Can you help?

Visit eHow where you can instructions for building a very basic treehouse (top right), including instructions for making a rope ladder (bottom right). You might also get some ideas at Treehouse Guides. Also take a look at this month’s You Tube playlist (#5 below) that shows 14 treehouse-related videos.

2. Is it OK to drive a nail into a tree?

No. Remember that a tree is a living thing, and nails could cause an infection or fall out. It is better to use a long, single bolt that goes all the
way through the tree, according to the Treehouse Workshop
.

3. What’s the biggest treehouse ever made?

If you do a search on “treehouse ideas” you can find all sorts of crazy treehouses, including one that is 10 stories tall! Located in Tennessee, it was built by a landscape architect. You can learn more at Treehugger.

4. Stuff you’ll need to make your treehouse:

* Parent’s permission.
* A tree and a ladder.
* A plan.
* A hammer and nails, or cordless drill and outdoor screws and nails.
* Portable Saw with safety goggles.
* Treated 2x6x8 boards and posts, plus a lot of scrap lumber and exterior   plywood sheets
